Gillian Avery

Gillian (Elise) Avery (born 30 September 1926) is a British children’s novelist and historian of childhood education and children’s literature. She and A Likely Lad won the annual Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize in 1972, a once-in-a-lifetime book award judged by a panel of British children’s writers. It was adapted for television in 1990.
