Richard Doddridge Blackmore, known as R. D. Blackmore, was one of the most famous English novelists of the second half of the nineteenth century.
Lorna Doone (1970)
This is a shortened version of the famous novel of Exmoor and the Monmouth Rebellion and the cursed family of the Doones, and poor Lorna caught up in it all.
Lorna is a daughter of the feared and hated clan of robbers - the Doones - nevertheless John Ridd falls in love with her and protects her from her would-be husband Carver Doone. The story takes place during the period of the Monmouth Rebellion. It was immensely popular in the nineteenth century.
